Exodus
Original Song: “Exodus”
Album: Babylon By Bus
Label: Tuff Gong/Island
Year: 1978
Notes:
As we have seen eariler, Musick is a means by which Our People travel. Thus I found it quite fitting to close with this particular song. Our Exodus out of the land of Egypt was not only symbolic of liberation but also a defining moment for Our People. Our tribulations while in the wilderness came with doubt, even defiance. It is with our Art that we are able to lead Our People into the land of Canaan, promised unto us by Our LORD. This is who Our Musick is for. As Bob states in the interview, “I’m not trying to reach a strange people, the people that I AM reaching is My People.” So to You, My People, this musical project and dedication to a messenger (read: Angel) is for you, letting you know that our Exodus is Now. May our LORD guide you into the promised land. Selah.
Exodus, Movement of Jah people!
Men and people will fight ya down
When ya see Jah Light.
Let me tell you if you’re not wrong
Everything is alright.
So we gonna walk through de roads of creation:
We the generation trod through great tribulation.
He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
(Job 33:28)
Exodus, Movement of Jah people!
Open your eyes and look within:
Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?
We know where we’re going
We know where we’re from.
We’re leaving Babylon,
We’re going to our Father land.
Exodus, Movement of Jah people!
Movement of Jah people!
Jah come to break downpression,
Rule equality,
Wipe away transgression,
Set the captives free.
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
(Isaiah 58:6)
Exodus, Movement of Jah people!
Movement of Jah people!
Men and people will fight you down
When you see the Light
Let me tell you if you’re not wrong
Well, everything is alright.
Jah come to break downpression,
Rule equality,
Wipe away transgression,
Set the captives free.
And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.
(Exodus 12:41)
